August 2014 Updates

29th Aug 14

A full month of improvements have been made to some of our core libraries. These updates are set to help make Orbit's modules more extendable so as not to limit how a module is setup from site to site. Sometimes, for example, when someone a product to their shopping cart a custom email or notification needs to occur that is completely custom to the clients site. Previously such features would be added into the module directly but now they can be bolted on as required per site.

Our eCommerce site is almost rolled out to 1/2 of our existing clients and it has been well received.

We are currently working on a couple of new modules at the moment. One is a project portfolio module and another is to aid with laying out pages in the editor. Sometimes it can be difficult to replicate the amazing work of a designer so we're looking at ways to allow for flexibility in adding content while not taking away from what the designer has done. Watch this space!

Here is a list of the most notable changes to Orbit this past month:

  • Social Media
Improved warning of session time out to make it easier to re-verify
  • String Library
Added a new function to better format slugs for improved URLs
  • Modules Library
Added new functionality to further extend modules
  • Standard Library
Improved restoring of archived content when using custom sections in a template
  • Content Management System
Improved error reporting as well as adding new tools to separate the production website from the staging site
  • Page Editing
Added 301 redirects in for when pages were being displayed in HTTPS mode incorrectly
  • jQuery - Validator
Adjusted default error messages and improved support for repeat custom error messages
